How do I make a certain part of my hair to stop growing a certain way?

I am a guy and when my hair grows there's a spot on the back of my head, near the end of where men's hair ends if short, where my hair grows out pointy right in the middle. That part seems to grow faster than the others. And I hate that. I want that part to stop growing out pointy. It also seems to grow out faster than the hair beside it, making it look even pointier. I want it all to be even at the bottom, I think it looks ugly and I don't want one of those miniature male ponytails at the bottom like one of those weird people. What is this part of hair even called?
